Constructive Selfishnes from Doing The Thing

Good Day!                                                                                                 October 20, 2010

The word 'selfish' has a negative connotation and a bad rap...would you agree?

I am introducing the term 'Constructive Selfishness' from the book "Doing The Thing",
because I think we are in desperate need of a shift in how we view ourselves and interact with ourselves.
Here is what I mean...

Your well-being is of vital importance to you (whether you know it or not)

We are all connected in this vast Universe (truly).

How you treat yourself affects us all.

When you beat yourself up, it not only feels bad to you, it ripples out from you.

When you are kind to yourself, it helps you shine and we benefit from that light and warmth.

Constructive Selfishness is key to our collective well-being on this planet.
Tell me one or more things you notice about how you treat yourself and how it feels.
And, I will do the same next time.

Until then...
Do The Thing with heart,
Dana

    Dana,

I was talking with my mom who is in her early 60's about this very subject the other day. She implied that she feels a bit guilty when she looks at and clears away something negative about herself. And then actually feels good about it for a day or so. That she should have used that time "doing" something else, usually outside of herself, like more work for her employer.

Then it hit me, she paved the way for me (my generation, now 37) to more easily love ourselves and feel more freedom to do the inner work. In a daze of appreciation I thanked her and all of the other mothers out there. I understood the sacrifice of self during those years of building a foundation for my generation to freely embody this concept.

Then I told her that it was time for her and all of the people who grew up with that structure to embrace this new path that they created and is now manifested. That everytime she looks straight at a negative feeling or thought and changes it to something that feels kinder, she does that for all of us. That everytime she does this it frees her time, energy and uncovers her own authentic self. I told her that the power in doing the thing is for all of us, past, present and future. To "be" constructively selfish in order to create something wonderful and new that this planet has never before experienced. I, for one, am extremely excited to be apart of it.

Thanks you to all of you out there, young, middle and older who are shifting yourselves and lives from; fear to hope to wellbeing.....

    Love, Rachel

      Rachel,
That is some wonderful, free-flowing insight.
It not only shows your firm grasp of the concept for yourself,
but also an overview of how generations affect each other.

And, yes...the bottom line is about hope.
(something that makes us all feel good)
      With love,
      Dana

Good luck getting people behind this one. Though you make some VERY fascinating points, youre going to have to do more than bring up a few things that may be different than what weve already heard. What are trying to say here? What do you want us to think? It seems like you cant really get behind a unique thought. Anyway, thats just my opinion.

Hey – nice blog, just looking around some blogs, seems a pretty nice platform you are using. I’m currently using Wordpress for a few of my sites but looking to change one of them over to a platform similar to yours as a trial run. Anything in particular you would recommend about it?
