Doing The Thing with Personal Power

Good Day!                                                                                            March 23, 2011

How are you?
Are you fulfilled, or is something missing?
Does this make a difference to the rest of us?

Today let's talk about that one thing that you may not do very often, but it can make all the difference. Think of something that makes you feel good inside. How often do you do it?
How do you feel when you think about doing it?

I was giving a talk at the library one night and we were talking about constructive selfishness.
A woman in the audience said she has time for everything else in her day but that one thing that really turns her on...playing the piano. She said she feels selfish when she thinks of taking even 15 minutes for that one thing. For someone else it may be art, or tending the garden, or hiking.

That thing or those things we avoid out of feeling selfish or guilty for taking the time for ourselves...that's our "shine", our expression of who we really are.

What ever it is, that one thing is a key to reclaiming your personal power.

I know a man who spent all his life avoiding his shine until he was given a life threatening diagnosis of cancer. Then it forced him to face his personal power and make a decision about how to treat himself. In his case Doing The Thing in constructive selfishness saved his life.

Is what he did making a difference to the rest of us?
He is a model now to those around him and and inspiration of what a high level of self-care can do for you. He's also a lesson in what the absence of self-care can do.

So this is a call to action, to act on behalf of yourself!
Take that time to find your shine. Take the time (even if it's just 15 minutes of your day) to honor that one thing that makes you feel good inside. When you feel good and express yourself genuinely, you add to the value of who you really are and that adds value to your world.

Doing The Thing with Love,
Dana
